(Missouri) – February 14, 2012 – Today, Chris Koster reaffirmed his support for Obamacare by filing another set of confusing briefs this time before the US Supreme Court. The briefs, according to Koster, affirm that Obamacare should be upheld and that provisions like the new anti-religious mandate and the rationing boards should go forward. Koster continues to argue that the insurance mandate may be unconstitutional.
“There can be no question: Missourians have rejected Obamacare and Chris Koster needs to stop playing politics and oppose all aspects of Obamacare,” said Ed Martin. “To play games with legal briefs to win political points is the height of arrogance and beneath the office of Attorney General.”
Last week, Martin called on Koster to fight the “preventive service” mandate for religious organizations. It’s clear he has no intention of defending religious freedom here in Missouri.
“After years of inaction by Chris Koster, he is desperately trying to remake himself now that he has a strong Republican opponent,” said Lloyd Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “Koster’s stunt is way too little, way too late. The truth is, Ed Martin is the only candidate in the race for Attorney General who will relentlessly fight for Missourians and against Obamacare.”
Koster’s statement reveals nothing new about his stance on Obamacare. His support for the “Affordable Care Act” as a whole is evidence that he is using the insurance mandate as a political football. He rode the Obama wave into office after switching parties and he has no choice but to ride it back out no matter which party he panders to.
