Dear Friend,
I just love Sundays! They are such great days in our family. I hope you had a great Sunday.
Today, after morning church and a big breakfast including eggs, toast and breakfast meats (my personal favorite is sausage patties), the family had a pretty quiet day. Edward had a mid-afternoon basketball game and I am an assistant coach on his team which is fun for all. Late in the afternoon, we ventured into the storage area of our basement to dig out some newborn baby stuff and to pack away a few final pieces of Christmas decorations (a Santa pillow and a renegade ornament!).
Carol is just one week from her due date and we are ready for our new daughter … ok, let’s be honest: I am not sure we are ready but we are getting out the baby clothes, seats, and bassinet. I think it must be true that a parent forgets the tiredness that descends with a newborn. If not, we’d all have no siblings!Well, right about now, supper is over, the kids are downstairs playing and it’s a quiet evening so I want to share a few thoughts and thanks.
It was a big week for us. Very big.
Announcing the run for Attorney General was the culmination of weeks of prayer and discussion between Carol and me. We are doing all of this – running for office – because we are so worried about what is happening and we think that I have something special to offer.
We have, over the past weeks and month, become more and more concerned that our own state has failed to fight back against Obamacare. Missouri’s governor and attorney general are rolling over and letting Obamacare begin here. Unreal, especially after more than 71 percent of us said “No” in August of 2010 via Prop C. Koster has failed to fight back as Obama and his team have attacked our 2nd Amendment rights (see Fast and Furious), tried to invalidate our illegal immigration laws (see Napolitano/Holder attacking AZ), and has been absent from the fight to stop Obama from telling states who can work and who cannot (see South Carolina/Boeing v. Obama’s NLRB).
Carol and I decided that I should step up and take on Missouri’s Attorney General Chris Koster. Koster has failed to fight Obamacare and has ignored the threats to our rights. Sadly (and importantly to us), Koster is a pro-abortion leader who seeks the company and support of the abortion lobby. This is despicable.
The response to our announcement has been wonderful. People have called from all over the region and state to say “go get ‘em” and “we’ll help.” I did radio and print interviews all over the state and kept driving home this point: the choice is clear to all that really are looking – you are either with Obama and the feds overrunning us or you are with “we the people” and the Founders’ values and vision. We have received hundreds of endorsements from elected officials and civic leaders. We are rolling!
So, what does an Attorney General do? Pretty simple description: 1) protect our rights under the Missouri Constitution and 2) enforce the law of Missouri. As to the first, an AG is supposed to make sure that “we the people” of Missouri are not overrun by the feds. As to the second, the AG is supposed to follow the law not make his own laws.
I became an attorney because I recognize that America’s shared values of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are protected by an honest and fair rule of law. As a young attorney, I worked for a federal judge and saw firsthand how the system should work. As a practicing attorney, I have helped citizens take on bullies like Rod Blagojevich! The system works but only when our attorneys follow the law and serve the truth. The current Missouri AG does not. I will.
So, in announcing the run for AG, I hoped to convey that I am committed to the fight for our future … I have found the best way for me to help and for us to build a campaign to make that difference.
I hope you will join us in this effort. So much is at stake.
And please keep Carol and our incoming baby in your prayers.
Talk to you soon.
All the best.

Ed Martin
